Are you really Green? Join the growing Amish

The Amish have nearly doubled in the last 16 years as reported by USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/news/religion/2008-08-20-amish-population_N.htm).

I find it amazing…who said Christians aren’t good for the environment? These have got to be the most eco-friendly folks in the world.

  1. Wow…I hope you’re not saying we have to be ignorant, uneducated, and primitive to be ecologically friendly…I’m not saying I don’t like the Amish, I just think some of their ideals are impractical.

  2. Hmm, I’m Plain (not Amish per se but look and live that way), and I’ve got two degrees to master’s level. I know a lot of stuff about the world, Scripture, and how to make things. I don’t think anyone who knows me would describe me as ignorant, uneducated or primitive just because I once had a bucket well and an outhouse (we have plumbing now – it’s overrated). How impractical can it be to live off the land, teach your kids better than most federally funded schools, and retain 95% of your young people in a traditonal life? While big business farming is killing the soil, the Amish and other traditional farmers are renewing it. Maybe not so impractical, if you want to eat.
