Who are the Guest Bloggers???

brian_andrews.jpg Hi, I’m Brian Andrews and I guess I’m the old man around here.  (I recently turned 40.)  Amy and I got married in 1997, and we are the blessed parents of four children.

Currently, I teach Math at the Ninth Grade Center of Cedar Hills High School in Cedar Hills, TX, just outside Dallas.

I’m a native Californian—born, raised and educated there.  I received a B.S. degree in Aerospace Engineering from UCLA in 1990, and a M.S. degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics at Stanford University in 1992.  After grad school, I started full-time work in a large aerospace firm.

Feeling unfulfilled as a rocket scientist, I quit my job and started selling car stereos, alarms and car phones at my parents’ store.  (You know you’re old if you remember when you could only use a mobile phone in your car.)  I was 24 and had no idea what I wanted to be when I grew up.

On December 15, 1992 at 4:00 a.m., God showed up in my bedroom and pretty much messed up my life from that point forward.  I had been a Christian since I was a teenager, but I consider that day my spiritual birthday:  the day I was “born again again.” Despite my initially fierce opposition to the idea, I responded to God’s call to enter pastoral ministry.  I completed my Master of Divinity degree from Fuller Seminary in 1999, having done half my schooling at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

Although I’m teaching in a public school right now, for most of the last 16 years I have been involved in pastoral ministry.  I began as a college pastor at my home church in Artesia, CA.  Following that, I spent three years working with youth, young adults and prayer ministries at what is now Living Springs Community Church just outside Chicago.  After that, I served as associate pastor and worship leader at a church plant in the San Diego area.  Most recently, I was the lead pastor at Vineyard Christian Church in Rochester, NY.  Lord willing, I will be able to serve in full-time ministry again.  Having spent a little time overseas, I’ve got the missions bug in a big way.

My vision is to see people from every nation saved, healed, set free and empowered to be passionate followers of Jesus.

Chad Bishop is an audio engineer in Irvine, CA. He and his wife, Veronica met at Biola University where they were both students in the mass communications department.  They now live in Tustin and attend Rock Harbor Church.  When not producing radio programs or playing the drums he enjoys immersion in pop culture and exploring its spiritual side.

Chad received Jesus as his Savior on Halloween in 1991 when he was in 2nd grade.  The only child of a single parent, Chad was home alone a lot on weekends which may have been where the movie watching began.  When approaching art, Chad believes that redemption cannot be as effectively shown without presenting the superlative effects of human depravity.  It is for this reason, Chad runs to the most depraved expression in art.

scott-kistler My name is Scott Kistler. Currently, I am a history professor at Kankakee Community College, where I teach mostly Western Civilization courses.  I’m very blessed to have a career that immerses me in what I love.  I need to remember to be thankful much more often for that!

I grew up in the Chicago area at Christ Church of Oak Brook, a large non-denominational church in the western suburbs.  The pastors were definitely in the Reformed tradition, as many were former Reformed and Christian Reformed ministers with Dutch names, although I would say that the teaching of the church from the pulpit and in Sunday School (as I remember it) was much more in the American evangelical mainstream with a Reformed twist.

I have a B.A. in Teaching of Social Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master’s in History from the University of California, Riverside.  In between those degrees, I moved to California, taught 6th grade for a year (please don’t ask), worked at a law firm, became friends with Rick through a mutual pastor friend, and ended up on the center-left politically (not Rick’s fault).  I moved back to Chicago and began teaching.

Like Rick, I love baseball.  Unlike Rick, I made a poor choice of teams (not really a choice, but a product of my environment) and am bound to a team that has not won a World Series in a historically significant amount of time (the Cubs, for the non-baseball fans out there).  I’m interested in politics and movies as well.

Rick has asked me to provide a Christian perspective on the lessons of history at Endued.  I’m looking forward to developing my thoughts in this area and hope that I can add something interesting and edifying. I also have a personal blog at http://temporachristiana.wordpress.com.

Joel Wilhelm is a technical writer. He grew up in the Midwest and has lived in six of our 50 states. He is currently forced to watch the Redskins although he is a Vikings fan. He is married to Rachel and has three children.

When not working he is usually reading in a desultory manner. His main interests are the Church Fathers, liturgy, Islam, the LDS Church and Anglican history. He is excited about the Anglican Mission in the Americas (AMiA), a missionary effort from the Anglican Church in Rwanda to re-evangelize the United States.

Apart from yard-work he is definitely not outdoorsy.

By the way, he has a personal blog at: http://livingtext.wordpress.com
