The Cure for Abortion??? LOVE

In many churches, including my own, Jan, 20th was deemed “Sanctity of Life Sunday”. We had a representative from a local Care Net pregnancy center come and share the progress of their tremendous service to the local community. It is great knowing that there are loving folks who want to embrace expectant mothers and their babies.

A local article from Time (http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1705604,00.html?xid=feed-yahoo-full-nation) cites that close to half of all pregnancies in America are unintended and about 40% of such end in abortion. I can’t help but think that many of these unintended pregnancies leave the woman abandoned by a cowardly “man”. Also, one may face the rejection of her own family. When such is the case, one thinks of abortion as simply hitting the “delete” button and moving on. If the expectant mom could run into some folks who are willing to love her and support her decision to keep the baby, then the rate of pregnancies carried to term increase. Go imagine…people who receive love from other people, no matter their circumstance, are more willing to choose life and love their baby in return.

The Care Net representative I met was a Christian woman full of love. In fact, her first involvement with the Care Net center came when she found herself pregnant years back. She is full of love for abandoned and hopeless young women and their babies. While many folks in the “Pro Life” movement are characterized in the media as hate mongering types who foam at the mouth and spew profanities towards those who disagree, such has never been the case in my history.

The Time article also cites the vying arguments from both sides on the abortion issue, both wanting to claim victory for the decline in abortion rates this past year. Those who advocate sex education claim that teens are succeeding in avoiding unwanted pregnancy, thus taking credit for the drop in abortions. I just don’t think that their rationale totally jives; because the percentage of teenage pregnancy actually increased. So also, the percentage of pregnancies carried to term increased, which means that more moms chose life over abortion. In my simple analysis of this quandary, the heart of the matter is a matter of the heart. As Christians create a more loving environment for expectant moms, we will see more babies carried to term. SO……

The best weapon against abortion is: LOVE, which is something we all can do. Planned Parenthood may claim to be compassionate, but it is quite certain that they “love” only 1 of the 2 lives that walk through their doors. Pro Lifers have more love to give, which will lead to a kinder and more compassionate humanity among us all.

I agree. Only with love and compassion can we overcome the darkest era of our country.
