Friel’s attitude REALLY turned me off. It seems like he’s just trying to stir up trouble/controversy. If he really cared about bringing truth to the forefront, he should sit down and have a conversation with Mclaren about these important issues instead of tearing apart a string of quotes he put together. It felt really forced…like he has to try really hard to make Mclaren look bad. Secondly, I don’t really agree with him. I haven’t spent a lot of time listening to Mclaren, but from the little I’ve heard, I don’t find much to disagree with. On the other hand, I agree with Friel on the “core beliefs” he presented, but I think he is totally out of touch with the culture today. People I’ve talked to over the past 5 years don’t want to have you shove your beliefs in their face. I’m not advocating coddling people and saying that whatever they believe is ok because I believe truth is found in Jesus. I’m saying that you need to be sensitive enough to present the truth Jesus shared with the world in a way that doesn’t turn people off.

Mat 7:13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many.
Mat 7:14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.
Mat 7:15 “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.

We must be aware of false teachings and guard ourselves with the true teachings of scripture if we are to seek Christ. Test the spirits (1Jn 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.)

What does light and dark have in common? What does Buddha, Muhammad, and Gandhi have in common with The Almighty God? How do they compare? They have wisdom, yes. But they got nothing on Christ. Their god is dead. Who is like the LORD? Nobody.
